We Are “One Day Closer.”

We are “one day closer” to our death. We are “one day closer” to our judgement. We are ”one day closer” to heaven? Or, we are “one day closer” to the everlasting fires of hell. If we go to hell, are we prepared to start burning and screaming “forever?” Scripture tells us to remember these things, death, judgement, heaven , or hell. “In all thy works, remember thy last end, and thou shalt never sin.” Ecclus. 7:40, drbo.org. And again in Deut. 32:29: “Oh, that they would be wise and understand, and provide for their latter end.”

Have you ever injured yourself, or made yourself so sick that you wished you had done better? But most of the time these things will usually pass, and we begin to start feeling better. But, for those who make the eternal mistake of losing their souls, there will never be a remedy. As a saint once said, “The door to hell opens for those who enter, but not for those who would depart.”

What must I do to save my soul? For one, you must remember your last end, as it says above. You must keep it in mind. Secondly, Jesus said, “If thou wilt enter life, keep the commandments.” Thirdly, you must pray. Jesus again said, “Without me you can do nothing.” We cannot be saved without his grace. We get this grace through prayer. St. Alphonsus said, “He who prays shall be saved. He who prays not shall be condemned.”

Especially we should pray the rosary each day as Our lady of Fatima instructed us. Fatima was confirmed by a great miracle of the sun, foretold 3 months in advance. Word spread rapidly and about 70,000 people showed up and witnessed the great cosmic miracle., even scoffers. But they weren’t scoffing when the sun started coming down and they thought they were all going to be killed!!! The events at Fatima, Portugal in 1917 are as much a historical fact as the sinking of the Titanic. If you are a non-Catholic and don’t understand the rosary, I would recommend you do some research. A good place to start is St. Louis de Montfort’s book, THE SECRET OF THE ROSARY. The Blessed Mother gave 15 wonderful promises attached to the Rosary, and one is, “Devotion to my rosary is a great sign of predestination.” And this is what this reflection is all about, saving our souls.

We also need the bread of life, Jesus the “living bread come down from heaven.” St. John chapter 6, verses 48 through 69. “Living bread,” he said, not symbolic bread. He also stated emphatically that if we don’t eat this heavenly bread, we shall not have life in our souls. Just as in the order of nature we have to eat to sustain our life, so also Jesus said in the spiritual order, we must eat his flesh for the life of our souls, verse 54, drbo.org, and says those who do so will be raised up on the last day, the day of Judgement and the end of the world. This is why, in the Douay Rheims Bible, and also the Latin Vulgate, which was in existence a thousand years before the King James, it says in St. Matthew chapter 6:11: “Give us this day our supersubstantial bread.” And the Latin Vulgate: “11 Panem nostrum supersubstantialem da nobis hodie…”

So if we want to save our souls, we must enter into the true Roman Catholic Church to save our souls, where this Bread of Life is found. The Bible says, “The Lord added daily to the Church such as should be saved.” Acts 2:47. “Such as should be saved,” it says, “were added to the Church.” Do not let the many sinners in the Church scandalize you. Jesus spoke of his kingdom on earth with ”good and bad fish,” and the bad fish would be cast out. We have plenty of sinners who do not take their faith seriously, but it is still the true Church,, and even Christ had a bad bishop, Judas, who was damned.

In order to understand what the true Church teaches, you will need a good Catechism. THIS IS THE FAITH by Canon Francis Ripley is one of the best books you can read to understand what the Church teaches. To understand what the Church teaches about Mary, TRUE DEVOTION TO MARY by St. Louis de Montfort, and, THE GLORIES OF MARY by St. Alphonsus Marie de Liguori are two of the most magnificent books ever written concerning her. Fr. F. X. Shouppe’s book, PURGATORY EXPLAINED BY THE LIVES AND LEGENDS OF THE SAINTS is one of the very best on purgatory.

Remember, you may put your shoes on in the morning, but someone else may take them off before night. Many years ago a friend of mine showed up for work on his early shift. I saw him talking to some friends outside just before he got off. He went home and a couple hours later got on his motorcycle and went out riding. A friend of the family was following him down the highway. His name was Donny. The friend said he was passing some vehicles, wasn’t doing anything wrong, and just as he was about to get back over, a van came across the median from the other direction, hit him and killed him instantly. He was healthy and in his 50’s. He never suspected that day would be the last of his life! So you better be always ready! If you are living in sin, you need to make your peace with God, make a good act of contrition, begin to pray often throughout the day, and keep the commandments. If you are a Catholic, you need to go to confession. We must stop our cursing and profanity. It makes our religion vain, says St. James 1:26. It also brings curses back on our own heads, and our families. We must learn to dress modestly. St. Paul says the immodest shall not inherit the kingdom of heaven, Gal. 5:19-21, drbo.org. We must give up occasions of sin, bad movies, bad internet, bad rap music, bad parties, taverns and so forth. The Bible says the drunkard shall not enter the kingdom of heaven, adulterers nor fornicators. God killed 23,000 in one day for fornication! 1 Cor. 10:8. Moses told the people to separate themselves from the evil men, lest they be involved with their sins. “Depart from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you be involved in their sins.” Numbers 16:26. This is a general outline of what we must do to save our souls. Much more could be said but if we do this, we are well on our way to salvation. Other related articles below.
