BEAUTIFUL THANKSGIVING PRAYERS AFTER HOLY COMMUNION

Most people lose many graces after receiving Holy Communion because, no sooner is Mass over than they are out the door. The popes and saints have recommended staying awhile if possible and making a suitable thanksgiving. St. Alphonsus said, “Oh! What treasures of grace do they lose who pray to God a short time after Holy Communion!” St. Teresa of Avila says, “Jesus  is not disposed to pay badly for His lodging if he is received well.” St. Alphonsus taught that our prayers are strongest after Holy Communion because the presence of Jesus animates our prayers.

1)  O sweet Jesus, pierce my heart so that my tears of penitence and love be my bread day and night. May I be converted entirely to Thee.  May my heart be Thy perpetual habitation. May my conversation be pleasing to Thee, and may the end of my life be so praiseworthy that I may merit heaven, and there with Thy saints praise Thee forever. Amen.  Concluding prayer of the 15 Prayers of St. Bridget.

2)  Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me .  Blood of Christ, fill me with your love. Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. O good Jesus, hear me. From the evil enemy, protect me, and at the hour of my death call me, and bid me come to Thee, that with Thy saints, I may praise Thee forever. Amen.   You may know a different version. This prayer should always be said after Holy Communion. Recommended by the Blessed Mother herself to a mystic.

3) The Magnificat, recommended by St. Louis de Montfort. He said it was our Blessed Mother’s prayer of thanksgiving after Our Lord took flesh in her womb.      My soul doth magnify the Lord.  And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid;  for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. * Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; and holy is his name. And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him  He hath shewed might in his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.  He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble.  He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of his mercy: As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed for ever.

4) All for Jesus:  O Jesus, sweet Jesus, O Jesus divine; my life and my death unto Thee I resign.  Every action of mine shall Thy patronage claim, for whatever  I do, shall be done in Thy Name.

5) For families: O Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on us. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, protect our families. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, convert our families. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, sanctify our families. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, save our families. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in Thee.  O Sacred Heart of Jesus, may all the world burn with love for Thee.

6) Prayer before the crucifix. Should always be said after Holy Communion. Very special indulgences when said after Holy Communion.  The prayer before a crucifix is a Roman Catholic prayer to Jesus which is said while kneeling before a crucifix. It is often said by Roman Catholics after Communion or after Mass. The faithful receive a partial indulgence if they recite the prayer after Communion before a crucifix. On the Fridays of Lent, the indulgence is a plenary indulgence.      Look down upon me, good and gentle Jesus, while before Thy face I humbly kneel and, with burning soul, pray and beseech Thee to fix deep in my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope and charity; true contrition for my sins, and a firm purpose of amendment. While I contemplate, with great love and tender pity, Thy five most precious wounds, pondering over them within me and calling to mind the words which David, Thy prophet, said of Thee, my Jesus: They have pierced My hands and My feet, they have numbered all My bones.” Amen.

7) O Jesus gentle shepherd, God of might and power; Thou thyself are dwelling, in me at this hour. Multiply Thy graces, chiefly love and fear; and dear Lord the chiefest, grace to persevere. When my heart Thou leavest,  Lord worthless though it be;  give  it to Thy Mother, to be kept for Thee. Amen. – Fr. LaSance

8) O my beloved, who art also my God, make my heart a flame of pure love for Thee.  Prayer taught to Sr. Josepha Menendez by our Blessed Mother, The Way of Divine Love

You can copy and paste these prayers in a document, if you so wish, print them off and put them in your Missal or prayerbook.

* “Shall call me blessed”: These words are a prediction of that honour which the church in all ages should pay to the Blessed Virgin. Let Protestants examine whether they are any way concerned in this prophecy.
